Day Before Surgery

The day before your scheduled procedure (Friday if you have surgery on Monday), a representative from our facility will call to confirm details of your appointment. If we are not able to reach you and you haven't received any information about your surgical time by 5 PM the day prior to your surgery, please call 610-495-3330. You can use this as an opportunity to discuss any last-minute questions or special needs you may have.

On this call we will discuss:

  • When to stop eating and drinking before your procedure.
  • What prescription or daily medications you should and should not take, including which medications should be brought to the hospital if needed.
  • You should leave valuables like watches, jewelry and wallets at home.
  • Any changes in your health (cold, fever, sore throat, GI issues, etc.).
  • Bring any assistive device you were given or will require (crutches, walker, sling, etc.)
  • Stay safe! Plan to have an adult accompany you home afterwards, patients receiving anesthesia are not be permitted to drive. Your surgery will likely be cancelled if you do not have a ride in place.
  • Joint replacement and spinal fusion patients: Please prepare to bring any medication you take on a daily basis to the hospital, in their original prescription bottles, not a daily pillbox. Hospital caregivers are required to reconcile your daily medications ordered by physicians outside of this hospital.
